The FuelEU Maritime regulation is now in force, with the aim of driving the shipping industry toward decarbonization as part of the EU Green Deal. Aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the framework sets progressive targets, promotes renewable fuels, and mandates on-shore power usage for certain vessels in EU ports. By working alongside the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), the regulations create incentives for adopting cleaner fuels, pushing for cost parity between green and fossil fuels by 2035. With penalties for non-compliance and funding for maritime decarbonization, FuelEU Maritime could pave the way for sustainable, forward-thinking shipping practices.
