EU extends Red Sea mission

News that the European Union has extended its naval mission in the Red Sea for over a year has been welcomed by the commercial shipping industry. The EU is allocating over €17 million for the operation to protect commercial shipping and ensure freedom of navigation, particularly against threats from Yemen's Houthi rebels. Headquartered in Larissa, Greece, the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES mission has expanded its scope to include intelligence gathering on arms trafficking and monitoring shadow fleets, reinforcing its commitment to securing vital maritime routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
