The pirates that boarded the Bangladesh-owned bulker off Somali are reported to be demanding $5m for the safe release of the crew. The M/V Abdullah is currently anchored off the coast of Somalia and the same pirates are believed to have hijacked the M/V Ruen in December.

Maersk have announced they are suspending Red Sea transits by US subsidiary Maersk Line Ltd after explosions were experienced near two of its vessels transiting the Bab al-Mandab Strait off Yemen. The vessels, carrying US military supplies, were forced to turn and withdraw.
